If you’re in need of more living space in your Currituck, North Carolina, home, it might be time to convert your garage. One of the concerns when converting your garage into living space is to make sure the area is comfortable. We’ve put together a few tips to help you out.
Flooring and Accessories
One of the most exciting parts about converting your garage into a living space is decorating it to fit your tastes. Whether you’re adding a game room for the kids, a den for watching movies and hanging out with friends and family, or another bedroom, you want to install proper flooring and comfortable sitting spaces. Carpet, plush couches, throw pillows, and a coffee table can go a long way toward warming up your new room.
HVAC System
The easiest and least expensive way to condition the air in your new garage-turned-living space is to extend the existing ductwork to the garage. On some garage space conversions, you might need to add a mini split HVAC to heat and cool the space.
Insulation and Sealing
Most home garages aren’t intended to be used as living spaces and, therefore, are not equipped with the proper insulation and seal to take on conditioned air. If you want to keep your home energy-efficient, it’s important to make sure you seal windows and doors and add insulation to the walls so you don’t see an increase in your monthly energy bills.
Plumbing and Water
When adding another room to your existing home, it’s important to consider whether you’ll need an extra bathroom, a sink, a refrigerator, or an ice machine in your living space. If you do decide you need these features, you’ll also need to install more plumbing.
